The Original Cuda Bowl Tournament
Key West Cuda Bowl
The 5th Annual Key West Cuda Bowl is scheduled for January 30th & 31st, 2015 at Hurricane Hole Marina in Key West!
We originally started this tournament as a way to raise awareness for this tremendous flats gamefish – the barracuda. Well here we are going into our fifth year and the tournament has become quite an event. Our first year we had 12 boats participate, in 2014 we have 27 boats and 41 anglers come out for the two day event.
The best thing about barracuda fishing is the weather doesn’t necessarily have to be a “Chamber of Commerce” kind of day. In fact, besides the first year the weather has been less-than-stellar but the fun is getting back in touch with our guide friends and some of our best anglers who just want to escape the cold of the north and come have some fun.
We’ve been fortunate to have some of the best sponsors possible for this event. The Monroe County Tourism Council has been a great help in getting the tournament going plus some of our favorites including Hatch Fly Reels, The Square Grouper Bar and Grill, Yeti Coolers, Chouinard Outdoors and Simms Fishing, VanStaal, Patagonia, Sun Bum, Fly Vines, Rapala, Montana Fly Company, Rio Products, Mustad Hooks, Key West Bait and Tackle and the Angling Company of Key West.
We have been so fortunate to have the great art of Bill Hartman for our hats and shirts since the tournaments inception. Hartman’s artwork can be seen at the Angling Company at 333 Simonton Street in Key West.
One of our other artist friends, Derek DeYoung helped us produce some art for our tumblers this year. You can visit his website www.canvasfish.com to see more of his wonderful fish art.
We have a simple format for the tournament – anglers fish individually and can score up to three barracuda in each category per day. We ask that they record every fish they release so we can collect data for the fishery advisors.
We have helped support the Jose Wejebe Foundation with a donation each year from our raffle.
