Sting Rea Charters
Here are some helpful tips to make your trip the best it can be!

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I bring my fly rods?

Your fly rods should be rigged as best you can prior to your trip. I will have flies and tippet for you but we will only waste time at the dock rigging rods (sometimes in the dark) if you come with them still in the rod tubes.

I have rods and reels – both right and left hand retrieve – and I can bring them. If you tell me you are bringing your own please ask if I will bring some rods too if you feel you need more.

Where do I get lunch for my  trip?

We’ve got some great places to eat but not a lot of them are open early in the morning. I can suggest you grab lunch at the grocery store the night before and just ask them to wrap it for the boat.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Sandy’s Cafe on White Street – open 24/7 – Great sandwiches, chicken burritos, breakfast sandwiches and Con Leche. You can call ahead and order 1026 White St, Key West, FL 33040. 305-295-0159
  • Baby’s Coffee on US Highway 1 at MM 15 has pre-made sandwiches and wraps, chips, drinks and some of the best coffee you’ll ever have. Call them at 305-744-9866.
  • Baypoint Market – MM 15 right next to Baby’s Coffee – 3124 U.S. 1, Key West, FL 33040. They make sandwiches to go with Boar’s Head Meats. 305-745-3882
  • Dion’s Chicken – Beware this stuff is addicting and they make it all day and night. There’s one on Big Coppitt Key, Stock Island, Flagler Ave in New Town and White and Truman in Old Town.

Where do we depart from?

Our departure time and location will depend on the wind, tide and weather. Please call or text the night prior to our first day of fishing. My cell number is 305-360-3122 and home is 305-744-0903. I ask that you contact me to confirm our trip by 6PM regardless if you have arrived in Key West or to your lodging. We can then make a plan for the morning.

Normal meeting places will be one of the following:

  • City Marina in Key West – located at the corner of Palm Avenue and N. Roosevelt Blvd in Key West. There is parking available but it can be limited during the high season. Circle K and the Shell Station have drinks and some food available.
  • Sugarloaf Key Marina – Located next to the Sugarloaf Lodge at MM 17. Sugarloaf Marina opens at 7:30AM and closes at 6PM. The marina has snacks, drinks, cigarettes and other sundries you may need like sunscreen.

If we decide on another location I will let you know.
